Waimakariri District

Named after the mighty braided river that forms one of its boundaries, Waimakariri in Māori translates to ‘cold rushing water’. A place with a rich Māori and European history located roughly 20 minutes north of Christchurch, the Waimakariri District is home to many major rural towns, such as Kaiapo, Rangiora, and Oxford.
