Introducing

Waimate offers guests to their charming town an up close and personal encounter to Wallabies, their babies (Joey’s), Muffin, the big maned friendly miniature pony, rare breed sheep, peacocks, bantams, and possums. You can find them all at EnkleDoovery Korna, where you will be given snacks and instructions on how to befriend these inquisitive, people friendly little creatures. Stroll through the town and view the Historic Edwardian and Victorian buildings, such as the Court House; the Historic White Horse Monument, Waimate Farmers Market for local fare and local products, Victoria Park Gardens, Waimate Historical Museum, and the Main Street statue.


The Model Garage has on display 4,000 model vehicles, Waimate Rodeo makes for a very entertaining day, Gunns and Kelceys Bush provides a leisurely walk through the native bush, or shop at the Waimate Knitwear Factory where you will find incredibly soft possum and merino knitwear. The community spirited Strawberry Fare Festival in early December draws thousands of visitors to enjoy their mouth watering plumb strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, along with 200 stalls, family friendly entertainment, gather round the rotunda and listen to the sounds of the band playing.
