Wellington to Picton
After the horrific winds and rain that had befallen us the night before, I was less than keen to get on a boat that went out into open water, but after seeing the Interislander ferry, I settled down. It’s huge; it’s not just an Auckland to Waiheke type boat, but the size of three of them. Our ferry was delayed by about 45 minutes and considering the trip takes around 4 hours, which was quite significant. There’s always something to do on the InterIslander, you can go stand on the top and see the amazing scenery, you can catch a movie or you can dine at one of their many restaurants. Or if you want, thanks to how spacious it is, you can find a chair somewhere quiet and get a bit of shut eye. Unfortunately, our trip wasn’t as smooth as one would have hoped, the boat was rocking horrendously and being hounded by the seas, but the staff were amazing, walking around handing out ice and water. After about an hour of rough seas, it calmed down and the views were absolutely incredible. Go up to the top deck, it’s pretty windy but the surrounding area is a stunner to look at.
