My Queenstown Experience

A tiny, small city on the side of a lake, it doesn’t sound too impressive, but Queenstown is one of the most diverse cities in New Zealand. From adrenaline fuelled activities to pub crawls every night of the week, to romantic walks along the lake, Queenstown has it all. I’ve been there twice, in April and October, and I recommend both. In April the scenery is scattered with all different hues of gold’s and reds, especially Arrowtown, a 15 minute drive from Queenstown. In October the surrounding mountains are covered in snow and are absolutely majestic to look at. Take warm clothes though, as it does get incredibly cold.

If you’re an adrenalin junkie, there are multiple activities to choose from. Just outside of Queenstown is the world’s first Bungy jump, the Kawarau Bridge Bungy. Even if you’re not up to taking the plunge, you are able to view people who are, and there is a nice café where you can grab a coffee at. The next adventure activity is the Nevis and the Nevis Arc. The Nevis is the second highest Bungy jump in the world, and a great feat to conquer. The Nevis arc is the world’s highest swing and can be done in tandem. If you are interested in any kind of thrilling activity go check out the Station, it’s on Shotover Street, right in the middle of Queenstown. Just down from the Station, is a place you cannot miss while you are in Queenstown. The infamous Fergburger, with the best burgers in town (and anywhere that I’ve ever tasted). You just need to walk past this place to see how good it is, it is never empty. In fact, most of the time you will find the queue out the door, so I recommend going around 3 pm, it will hopefully be a little less busy. And don’t forget the burgers are huge, so choose carefully.

If, afterwards you still have room to eat, go to Patagonia Chocolates on the waterfront. Another very busy place, but absolutely worth it. My favourite is the banana split ice cream; it is just like a real banana split in ice cream. Try a hot chocolate also; they have normal, lavender and chilli flavours. Other than this, there is a multitude of things to do in Queenstown, head up the gondola to get amazing views of the area, drive to Wanaka and have lunch at a pub along the waterfront.
