Introducing
Napier with its Mediterranean climate draws visitors worldwide and locally, especially for its display of art deco architecture in the township. As Napier is a seaside town, the sea holds many legends such as ‘The Legend of Pania of the Reef’. Legend has it that Pania and Karitoki fell in love, but as she was a spirit of the sea, Karitoki betrayed her by trying to make her earth-bound. As a result they were separated forever, and Pania’s statue which stands in Napier’s Marine Parade, as a memorial to their fateful love.
Harvest Hawke’s Bay, Mission Concert at the Mission Estate Winery, Art Deco Weekend all offer memorable experiences, due to sights and sounds, fine wine and food.
