Explore Punting on the Avon in Christchurch

This iconic Christchurch activity is a must-do for a unique, tranquil, and eco-friendly experience upon the river Avon.

Glide along the river in a small, flat-bottomed boat piloted by a guide dressed in Edwardian-style clothing at the rear end and learn about the history of the stunning Garden City in style.

The Experience

The Punting tours originate from one of two sites in Christchurch: the famous Antigua Boatsheds, which glide through the city’s beautiful Botanic Gardens, or the Worcester Bridge departure point, which travels through the inner city’s revitalised Avon River Precinct. Experience native flora and fauna, magnificent Redwoods and Willow trees, and view the encompassing wildlife through this central city oasis.

All shared punting tours last 30 minutes, with 45-minute private charters available to book from the Antigua Boat Sheds departure point.

Learn about the history, view the Garden City from a unique vantage point, and relax on a hand-crafted heritage boat with the water swirling beneath you.
